How Supplement Money-Back Guarantees Actually Work

Refund guarantees are among the most persuasive things on a supplement page and among the least carefully read.

The number is the marketing; the conditions are the product

"60-day money-back guarantee" tells you almost nothing on its own. Four details decide whether it is usable, and all four are usually further down the page in smaller type.

1. When does the clock start?

Purchase date or delivery date. On a product shipping internationally or slowly, the difference can be a meaningful share of the window. Purchase-date guarantees are more common and less generous.

2. Is there a minimum use requirement?

This one surprises people. Some guarantees ask you to use the product for a set period before qualifying for a refund — JointBrex's published terms ask for at least 30 days of use within a 60-day window.

The stated reasoning is that gradual products need time to work, which is not unreasonable on its face. The effect is a practical decision window considerably narrower than sixty days.

3. Do you have to return the bottles, and who pays?

Some guarantees are no-return. Others require you to ship everything back, including opened bottles, at your own cost. On a six-bottle kit, return shipping can consume a noticeable fraction of the refund.

Also check whether opened or partially used bottles qualify at all — a guarantee requiring unopened product is not a satisfaction guarantee in any meaningful sense.

4. How do you actually claim?

An automated portal is straightforward. An email address to a support team is slower and depends on responsiveness. Neither is disqualifying, but they are different experiences and worth knowing about before you need one.

The practical advice

Decide your evaluation period the day the product arrives, not the day you start wondering whether it worked. Put a reminder in your calendar for two-thirds of the way through the window. Refund requests made at day fifty-eight go badly far more often than requests made at day forty.

What a guarantee does not tell you

Whether the product works. A generous refund policy signals confidence in customer satisfaction rates, which for a subjective symptom in a condition with a high placebo response is not the same as clinical efficacy.

It is a consumer protection, and a genuinely useful one. It is not evidence.

Price the guarantee into the decision

A usable guarantee lowers the real risk of trying something. An unusable one — narrow window, return shipping at your cost, opened bottles excluded — means you are effectively committing to the full purchase. That belongs in the value calculation alongside cost per day.

Work Out What It Costs You Per Day

Kit price divided by days of supply is the only figure that lets you compare this against anything else on the shelf. Our pricing page runs that arithmetic for all three kits and lists the conflicting numbers we found.
